Shiksha Mitra Latest Updates: CM Yogi Adityanath Urges for Peace, Assures Appropriate Measures

As lakhs of Shiksha Mitras in the state of Uttar Pradesh continue to lock down schools and protest the SC order cancelling their appointment as Assistant Teachers, UP CM Yogi Adityanath has urged for peace. In the latest news updates regarding Shiksha Mitras, the UP CM has asked the lakhs of employees to be patient and let the government find an appropriate solution.
Following the cancellation of the appointment by SC, 1.78 lakh Shiksha Mitras in UP went on strike on July 27. Related News | Shiksha Mitra Latest News: UP CM Yogi Adityanath Assures Shiksha Mitra after Stir in UP over SC Order

The situation however continues to be in a state of impasse. While the Supreme Court was very clear in its order, the Government has verified that the appointment was an erroneous decision on the part of the previous SP and BSP governments. The UP CM has also mentioned that the UP Government is committed to finding an appropriate solution to the problem and has assured its full cooperation. In the interim, lakhs of disgruntled Shiksha Mitras have taken to violence in the streets of UP.

Follownig the order on July 26 which deemed the appointment as illegal, the Shiskha Mitra announced a boycott from the schools. Not just that, thousands of them took to streets and even locked down schools and stopped trains in protest. Taking note of the situation, the UP CM has again urged them to be patient. The government, he said, is going through the Supreme Court order and would find a suitable measure soon.

The biggest bone of contention in the ruling is the considerable drop in the salaries. An Assistant Teacher earns on an average 39000 per month. A shiksha mitra, on the other hand would be eligible for a mere 3500 per month salary. The SC has cleared that those Shiksha Mitras who have cleared the Teacher’s Eligibility Test, can apply for and be appointed as Assistant Teachers. However, in the absence of the basic eligibility criteria, the appointment is in direct violation of the student’s right to education – said the SC Bench in its July 26 ruling.
