IBPS CWE Clerk Examination: Question Paper Analysis

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is the premiere body which recruits aspiring candidates who apply for jobs in public banking sector. Presently there is a huge dearth of bank staff members in India and the body is fulfilling the need by filling vacant seats left over by the veteran workers. IBPS in conducting this examination for quite a few years now and provides candidates for 21 nationalized banks. The examination is held online and this year it is scheduled to start from December 06. The paper consists of five sections which carries a total of 200 marks. Each section consists of 40 marks and there is a negative marking on every wrong evaluation of a question. Though there are almost equal number of questions asked per sections but there are times when the number of questions and their respective markings vary accordingly. Those who have a good preparation would find the examination rather easier one to crack.

Reasoning
The questions in the reasoning section often remain moderate when it comes to difficulty level. There are many competitive books that are available which could guide on which kinds of questions one should expect in the reasoning section. There are questions like linear arrangements, circular arrangements, complex arrangements, data sufficiency, codes based statements and conclusions, alpha numeric series, directions, letter symbol coding and syllogisms. The time becomes a key in this paper and only those candidates who have a proper practice could manage to keep the time on their hand while solving these puzzles.
Quantitative Aptitude
Last year the quantitative aptitude section saw quite a difficult paper where it carried judicious mix of BODMAS, various typical arithmetic problems, number series and what not. There were almost 15-17 questions related to BODMAS and its approximations. The candidates need to have a strong background of basic mathematics in order to get through this section well. The general arithmetic and quantitative question section carries almost 15 questions in the paper and contains simple questions belonging to simple and compound interests, profit and loss, time and distance etc. Time again becomes important in this paper and requires a good amount of practice and grip in the subject.
English Language
This is one section which more or less remains constant in every year’s question paper. There are questions related to Reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary which test the overall knowledge of the candidates when it comes to the language. The questions can be on easy to moderate level and those candidates who have a concrete background of the language would find it easy to answer. There are almost 10 questions that are asked from the reading comprehension section. Questions dealing with fill in the blanks, find the errors, jumbled sentences carry most of the marks in the paper. Jumbled sentences and cloze passages too carry quite a lot number of questions (15) in general in the paper.
General Awareness
This section carries questions majorly from the banking and finance sector. The emphasis is given on banking products and economic framework of the company. Those who are aware of the latest ongoing of the banking sector would find it easy to solve that too on a very less time.
Computer Awareness
This section carries generally questions pertaining to basic computer skills. Those candidates who have basic knowledge of the hardware and elementary software applications would find it easier to solve the questions asked in the section. Microsoft Office is one such application which carries a lot of questions in the examination. Internet applications, softwares, window applications and operating system and various other fields are touched though this section to test the overall knowledge of computer among the candidates.
